Welcome to Jimmy B. Cagle's Home Page

CAGLE FAMILIES IN THE SOUTHERN STATES

Thank you for visiting my Home Page and allowing me to introduce you to my new book, a genealogical history of Leonhart Cagle and his descendants in America,

CAGLE FAMILIES IN THE SOUTHERN STATES, Descendants of Leonhart Cagle b. ca. 1684.

This book is the result of more than twenty years research and hundreds of interviews with Cagle descendants. It enumerates the first three generations of Leonhart's descendants in America, tracing many branches of the family down to present day generations.

This beautifully embossed hard cover book is stamped in gold on the front and spine. It is printed on acid free paper and the binding is Library Oversewn, rounded and backed with head and foot bands. There are 854 pages complete with index and extensive endnotes. The page size is 8 1/2 X 11 inches. This beautiful book is destined to become a family treasure.

This Cagle Genealogy begins with Leorhart Cagle, and those who are generally believed by researchers to be his children, and are shown as his children in this book. An effort has been made, as much as possible, to list and document the first three generations of Leonhart's family.

This book evolved in three phases over a period of twenty years. It began with my desire to learn more about my father's Cagle family. That knowledge did not go beyond the early memories of my grandmother and her early life on "Dutch CreeK" in the area of Scott and Yell Counties in Western Arkansas.

The first phase of my work was to connect my grandfather, James Franklin Cagle, to his ancestry beyond his early life in Yell County, Arkansas. That search led to Mississippi, resulting in my gathering an enormous amount of information about the Cagle families and individual Cagles who left a record of their presence in the early years of the state's history.

The second phase was analizing all those records and trying to determine how the families and individuals related to each other as brothers, sisters, children, parents, grandchildren and grandparents. Census records prior to 1850 provided a broad framework but little conclusive information. The families began to take shape as more records were found. That left unanswered the relationship of the families to each other.

The third phase was the extension of the ancestry of the Mississippi Cagle family lines, looking for a relationship of one to the other, and connecting them together. After many years of searching, the ancestry of almost all of these families has been traced back to Leonhart "Kegel" Cagle who arrived in Philadelphia in 1732. Their descendants are scattered throughout the United States and in many different different parts of the world.

The database for this book contains 8,141 individuals representing 1373 surnames and 2,276 key Cagle families.

The wonderful legends and stories, about the events in the lives of the individuals that were found during the research for this book have been included. They are woven into the fabric of the indiviual and families.

LOOKING AHEAD
Not all of the vast amount of data on hand could be included in this book. In its present form it was pushing the practical limit on the number of pages for publishing.

There seems to be some interest among those whose familylines that were not continued beyond the first few generations in this book to be included in a COMPANION VOLUME .

The author has always considered the possibility of COMPANION VOLUMES. He would welcome correspondence on this subject and would welcome contributions of family group sheets, family legends and stories pertaining to the Cagle Family.
